In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee included annotation as a basic capability in the first description of what would become the World Wide Web. 30 years later, we gather at #ianno19 to mark how web annotation is now realizing its promise through standards, developing technology, a vibrant community, and growing traction in many fields.

Pre-conference Social

Tue 21 May: Attendees gather before the conference for cocktails and snacks to renew contact and make new connections.

I Annotate 2019

Wed 22–Thu 23 May: Two full days of presentations, workshops, demos, and uncoferencing for 150–175 expected attendees, drawn from leading thinkers and practitioners in education, journalism, publishing, research, science, and technology.

Hack Day/Do-a-thon

Fri 24 May: Register now to join approximately 50 attendees at the associated hack day and do-a-thon, where technical and non-technical folks gather to work on annotation. This free Friday gathering will be held at The Loft 600 F (600 F Street NW, Washington, DC 20004 USA).

Lodging

There are no hotels specifically reserved for I Annotate 2019. Attendees can find lodging nearby using a variety of services or stay in one of Washington DC's many hotels, including locations close to AGU.
